New River Community College, in partnership with the National Apartment Association Education Institute (NAAEI) and the Virginia Apartment Management Association (VAMA), is offering an 11-week Certified Apartment Maintenance Technician course. The course provides knowledge and hands-on experience through classroom instruction and lab activities to gain entry and advance as a maintenance technician in the residential property or commercial building industry. Students learn the basics of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, appliance, construction, painting, lock and key services, and repairs.
Upon successful completion, graduates will be eligible to take the Certified Apartment Maintenance Technician (CAMT) Certification Exam. After successfully passing the exam, students will receive their provisional certificate from NAAEI. After completing one year of experience in the industry, NAAEI will grant students their full certificate.
FastForward programs: Unlike traditional college credit programs, courses offered under these programs are designed to be completed on a short-term basis (weeks or months as opposed to one-two years of study). Students in FastForward programs also benefit from significant cost reductions. Subject to the availability of funds, students pay only one-third of the normal cost of training. Many students also qualify for financial aid (FANTIC) to help cover the remaining cost.
