Purpose: With the development of business and industry in Virginia, there is a demand for trained personnel in advanced machine concepts and techniques. The Associate of Applied Science degree curriculum in Machine Technology is designed for persons who seek full-time employment in the metal working industry. Graduates of this program may continue their education in a technology program at a four-year institution which offers related industrial programs.

Admission Requirements: In addition to admission requirements established for the college, enrolling students will be required to take the college placement tests. MAC 106  is a corequisite to the first semester if it is not articulated.

Program Requirements: The first two semesters of this program are designed to provide the background study and practical application needed for the advanced study in the second year. The curriculum includes machining experiences designed to develop students’ proficiencies and knowledge of advanced concepts and methods of modern machine tool operations. Students are urged to consult with their faculty advisor or an academic advisor in planning their program and selecting electives. Upon satisfactory completion of the four-semester program, the graduate will be awarded the Associate of Applied Science degree in Machine Technology.

Students who plan to transfer to a four-year college after completing A.A.S. degree requirements should inform their academic advisors at the beginning of studies to determine the appropriate courses to meet transfer requirements.
