Purpose: This specialization degree provides opportunities for students to transition to networking, technical support and cybersecurity careers, and provides opportunities for pursuing bachelor’s degrees in cybersecurity. The curriculum is designed for individuals seeking to start or grow a career in the field of information technology with specialized skills and training in networking and cybersecurity. It prepares students for entry level positions such as help desk technician, IT support specialist, network technician, and cybersecurity technician. With a strong emphasis on hands-on experience and problem-solving, students gain practical knowledge in troubleshooting, system administration, networking and cybersecurity fundamentals.

Credit for Prior Learning:
Students who hold up-to-date IT certifications may be eligible to receive college credit through Credit for Prior Learning (CPL). To explore potential credit options and determine eligibility, students should contact their academic advisor or a faculty member in the Information Technology program.
In-Person Coursework Requirement:
This degree program includes hands-on lab components that must be completed on campus. Students are required to attend in-person classes in NRCC’s Information Technology labs, as many courses involve physical equipment, interactive troubleshooting, and supervised technical exercises. This program cannot be completed fully online.

Admission Requirements: Students who plan to transfer to a four-year college after completing the Specialization degree requirements should inform their faculty advisors at the beginning of studies to determine the appropriate courses that meet transfer requirements.
Program Requirements: The Cybersecurity specialization is a two-year program combining instruction required for competence as a technician in an industrial or business environment. The first year of the Cybersecurity specialization program is designed to establish general computer concepts. The second year develops this base in a number of important areas such as specific training in scripting, cryptography, information assurance, cyber threats, IT system components and networking technologies.
